Your $10 Regional Entry Fee

Where Does it Go?

Before I became treasurer of District 22 and played in regional tournaments, I always wondered what happened to my $10.00 entry fee. Where does it go? I thought you might be wondering the same, so in this article I am summarizing where our entry fees went in 2004.

$ 3.27 goes to pay the staff: the directors and their hotels, transportation and per diem, and the caddies. Larger tournaments have a lower percent staff expense, smaller tournaments have a higher percent. Our tournaments averaged $3.27.

$2.50 goes back to you, the players, in the form of hospitality: food, candy, section prizes, give-aways, the hospitality suite, etc. The playing space sometimes costs us money, and sometimes we have to purchase a certain amount of food and beverage or guarantee a certain number of room nights at the hotels to get the playing space for free, but this all comes under hospitality.

$1.70 goes to the ACBL and the Western Conference in the form of sanction fees.

$ .40 goes for supplies: tables, bidding boxes, cards, trays, pencils, convention cards, etc.

$ .35 goes for advertising: ads in the Forum and Bulletin, the flyers.

$ .22 goes to produce and print the daily bulletin and photography.

$ .13 goes to the Intermediate/Novice program: postcards, special awards, free plays for speakers.

$ .09 goes for the hand records and copies.

$ .11 is for miscellaneous administrative expenses.

And $1.20 goes to the district to pay for district operating expenses such as the Contract Bridge Forum, education, board expenses and funding the GNT winning teams expenses.

Just thought you’d like to know.
