VOLUNTEER
IN CHARGE OF UNIT GAME FOOD: MENU SUGGESTIONS.
In general
you can serve anything you want.
Recognize
that some people won’t eat red meats. Usually not a major
problem.
Making
sandwiches ahead of time is OK if you want to put in the time to do so.
Also,
sliced sandwich meat is not cheap.
If you do
choose sandwiches, it is easier on you if the guests assemble their own
sandwiches at the game site.
The intent
is to serve a “light lunch” rather than a large lunch. However, many times a main dish + salad +
desert have been served.
Some of
the menus used in the past are:
Sandwiches (guests
assemble their own), assorted sliced meats, rolls/bread/croissants.
Pizza,
Salad & Desert. Most pizza places will deliver. Be adamant about the time of delivery. Pay for the pizza yourself, get a receipt.
Various
Salads/Dressings, Deserts.
Meatball
Sandwiches & desert.
Turkey
Dinner w/fixing’s (November Unit Game)
Sloppy Joe
sandwiches, Cake
Ham
Sandwiches & Salad, cake.
Soups
& Salad Bar.
Hot
Dogs, Buns, Sauerkraut, Baked Beans, cake.
Chili
Dogs, Salad, cake.
Lasagna (Stouffers
frozen from Smart & Final), Salad, Garlic Bread.
(need ovens
at site to cook lasagna.)
Chicken
assorted pieces, cake.
If you are
going to serve cake, ask some of your friends to bake a cake or two for the
game. Shy away from those that will buy
a cake at the store/bakery…..they are much more expensive and don’t taste as
good.
A good
source for cake is the sheet cakes available at Costco/Sam’s Club for $16,
serves 48.
