DIRECTORS PRESENT: Margaret Mahaffey, Judy Nicholson, Howard Reed, David Shuster, Richard Betcher, Mary Lou Da Costa and Richard Meffley

DIRECTORS NOT PRESENT: John Renna, Paul Boyd. Paul Messner and Kay Chrisman.

 

RICHARD MEFFLEY called the meeting to order at 5:38 p.m.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  The minutes of the June 16, 2006 meeting of the Board were unanimously approved as written.

 

TREASURER REPORT:  The Treasurer’s report was postponed due to the absence of John Renna.

 

EDUCATION MEETING REPORT:  The education committee is looking at beginning books to be used for teaching.  They have not decided on one.  Beginning bridge taped will be ordered from ACBL and copied. 

 

Judy Nicholson will call Jim Stefanich and perhaps others to teach beginning bridge.

 

BUILDING

Howard reported on sited to rent including a building at the airport.   He reported that to buy a building, we would need to pay 35% down, which we are not now in a position to do.  Further discussion followed

 

2006 EVENTS

The Bracketed Knockouts will be scheduled for September 10, October 8, and October 22.   Discussion followed about whether teams can play on other dates if agreed.  Conditions of Contest may allow other dates between those dates providing they are held at the bridge club.

 

The Pro-Am team game will be postponed to January 2007.

 

There will be no Sunday game on Labor Day weekend.   The scheduling policy is that Sunday games on holiday weekends may be cancelled in advance. 

 

Districtwide Charity game August 20.  Maggie will be chairman.  She will organize an auction of bridge players to be concluded on August 20.
