ALLWYN
HENDRICKSON Allwyn "Al" Hendrickson was born on May 2, 1930, in Grand
Rapids, Michigan. After a lengthy illness, he passed away peacefully at
home with his family present on Tuesday, January 16, 2007, in Fresno at
the age of 76. Al's devotion to his family, his kindness, wisdom and
generosity touched all those who were privileged to know him and he
will be missed by all. Al grew up in Long Beach, California where he
graduated from Polytech High School, in 1948. He met the love of his
life, Mary Ann Waterman, while at college in Berkeley. They were
married on June 26, 1954. Al served in the U.S. Army during the Korean
War. After the war, he resumed his studies at the University of
California, Berkeley. He received his degree in Business
Administration, and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, yell leader,
and intramural handball champion. Following his retirement as an
educator, Al and Mary Ann enjoyed extensive traveling together and took
at least three major trips per year. Al's other hobbies included
fishing, bridge, dancing and spending summers with family and friends
at their Huntington Lake cabin. He was also an avid sports fan, and a
devoted Fresno State Bulldog supporter. Al and Mary Ann traveled
throughout the southwest and Hawaii following the Bulldogs. He was one
of the founders and served as President of the Board of Directors for
the Alpha House, a recovery home for alcoholic women, and he had a
continuing Commitment to its success. He was also a member Of SIRS and
belonged to the Assembly Dance Club. The family would like to give a
special thanks to Al's caregiver, Eric Tayaba, for his loving care
during Al's long illness. What Al loved more than anything was spending
time with his family. Al leaves Mary Ann, his loving wife of 52 years;
his three children, son, Todd Hendrickson and his wife Cathy of Fresno;
daughter, Sue Hendrickson-Castro and her husband Gary of Fresno; son
Dr. Jay Hendrickson and his wife Maria, and their daughters, Kaitlyn,
Faith and Jayme Grace of E1 Dorado Hills, California. Al is also
survived by his sister, Phyllis Van Zant and her husband George, of
Long Beach, California. A Memorial Service will he held at Northwest
Church in Fresno on Friday, January 26, 2007, at 11:00 a.m.
