WILLIAM TSOLOCK HAGOPIAN On June 29, 2006,
at 9:30 p.m., William died peacefully. He was the seventh of eight
children born to Hachig and Agavni Hagopian. As a young boy he had to
overcome adversity due to a foot injury. He was plagued by this injury
most of his life, but being the strong determined person that he was,
he overcame the pain and consequently, it made a much stronger person
of him both physically and mentally. He was an average student in grade
school, but in high school his teachers discovered his academic ability
and prowess. Instead of going to college, he farmed the family 30
acres, later trading up to an 80 acre piece of desert which he farmed
into a productive vineyard, and he continued expanding to about 1,500
acres of vineyard and almonds. He was the primary supplier of wine
grapes for Gallo wineries. During the depression of the grape industry,
the Bank of America had to foreclose many farms. The CEO of the bank
choose Tsolock to farm all of these vineyards. He was farming up to
10,000 acres. In addition to his expertise as a farmer, he was an
outstanding bridge player being written up in the Contract Bridge Forum
for his 70% games. Recently he established an educational foundation to
send all of the Hagopian children to college for generations to come.
He was truly a pillar of the community. He was the father to Billy and
John Hagopian, both deceased. He is survived by his wife, Laverne
Hagopian of Madera; a younger brother, Berge Hagopian of Mission Viejo;
and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In lieu of
flowers, the family encourages donations to the Holy Trinity Armenian
Apostolic Church. YOST & WEBB FUNERAL HOME1002 "T" St. 237-4147
