NON-LM SECTIONAL
AUGUST 22-23

It's not too early to make plans for the NonLife Master sectional.   We'll have stratified pair games at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. on Sunday with a Swiss team game on Sunday at 2 pm.  Invite your friends to play - anyone who is not a Life Master may play.  Between sessions will be lunch and learn - enjoy some food and get a lesson at the same time.
If you can help Dora Gostanian and Mary Jo Davila with Hospitality, please let them know.

PRO-AM TEAMS
SUNDAY JULY 12
We left this popular event off the calendar on the newsletter that we mailed out.   Come join us on Sunday July 12 for a pro-am team game.  We'll pick your team for you - as long as you come to play.  Each team will have one or two life masters, and a newcomer or two.   It's lots of fun, and gives you a chance to play with a new partner or two or three.

PLACES AND FACES
More winners from the Sacramento Regional - Farid Assemi and Ed Wojewoda won the California Capital Swiss teams, were fourth in the evening Swiss teams, and won the compact KO teams consolation.  Richard Meffley was eighth in the California Capital Swiss teams, with Rick Whitworth and Jim Tritt 16th.  Angie Heisdorf, Ruth Christensen and Bev Daniels were second in the bracket 6 Compact KO team consolation.  Bill Glass was 17th in the Flight B Swiss teams.
At the Ventura Regional, Richard Meffley won the Swiss teams and the afternoon Swiss, was second in the side game, and third in the KO teams.
Judy Zimmerer won the bracket 8 KO teams and was third in flight C of the evening Swiss teams at the Las Vegas regional.  John and Tina Renna were sixth in Flight C of the Swiss teams, third in the bracket 7 KO teams, and second in flight C of the evening Swiss teams.   Kim Morris, Robert Rouch, Avis Morse, and Robert Iorio were third in bracket 5 KO teams.  Rose Boot and Bill Glass were third in the bracket 4 KO teams.  Bill was also sixth in Flight C of the evening Swiss teams and fourth in the side game.
At the Hollister sectional, Richard Meffley won the Swiss teams, and won just enough master points to make Grand LM.

Get well wishes to Keiko Collins, who is convelescing after surgery.   Barbara Thacker will be in charge of the Tuesday morning games for a while.  Also get well wishes go to Wanda Cardella and Cor Yssels.
Our condolences to the family of Doris Brown, who passed away recently.
We are saddened by the recent passing of Noralee Kreps.   Our sympathy goes to her family.  We will always remember her great bidding and play of the hand and who can forget her laughter?   She and Betty Henry were a formidible pair.  Noralee was frequently the top master point winner at the Visalia sectional, and a regular visitor to the Fresno Bridge Club, until a stroke about five years ago forced her to stop playing bridge.   We remember playing with her and against her in many District 22 events.  One of my fondest memories is playing with her, lounging around the swimming pool betwen sessions as we enjoyed the best regional tournament ever, the Los Angeles Bridge Week at the Ambassador Hotel.

GOODWILL
We still do not have a nominee for the District 21 Goodwill member.   District 21 honors four or five members per year.   The nomination deadline is September 1.  If you want to make a namination, let Kay Chrisman or Richard Meffley know.

BRIDGEVARIA

We got an e-mail about a new bridge website, which has new information every day - try it out and see if you like it.

CLUB NEWS
PLAY IN THE NORTH AMERICAN PAIRS

Try to win red points and qualify to play in the national finals in Reno next year.   The North American Pairs starts here with stratified qualifying games in July and August.  We'll have several qualifying games - check your calendar for the dates and times.   Those who make the grade can play in the unit finals in the fall. Qualifiers there can play in District 21 finals in January, and the top three in each flight go to Reno in March.   The flights are open, under 2000 master points, and nonLMs (under 500 mp).
Top Fresno players for May were Bert Rettner, followed  by Skip Miller and Maggie Mahaffey.   Top 99er for May was George Dalition, followed by Stephen Blumberg.   George leads the 99er for 2009, while Steve Sharp holds his open lead for the year.
Oakhurst leaders for June were Don McCartin, Joe Fox, Al Crane, Genie Krieghoff, Burke Zane, Corey Cole, and Ken Doig.  Top master point winner for June in Madera was Pearl McGinnis, followed by Bob Mortimer and Everett Bondeson.  Everett Bondeson has taken over the 2009 lead, just 0.13 master points ahead of Denny Green.
The Bergon Senior Center in Madera is being remodeled, starting July 13.   The Madera Bridge Club will take up temporary quarters at the Pan Am Community Center at 703 E. Sherwood until the construction is completed.  If you need directions, call Richard at 978-1196, or check mapquest on your computer.
Wow! We have a Guess Your Score winner.   John Jonassen correctly guessed his score in the Tuesday afternoon game.  You can try to win a prize on Wednesday afternoon July 29 - just guess your score.

BRIDGE CENTER NEWS
We're still trying to find our way around the new bridge center, but it's fun to try out all the new things and find where everything is kept.
We now have an emergency panic button at the bridge center -  useful to use in emergencies.  Minor emergencies are that things keep disappearing at the new bridge center.   We're not sure how, but the keys to the restrooms seem to like to wander.   Maybe some day they'll come home.   If you find a restroom key in your pocket when you get home, please bring it back.
Also, some of our platters disappeared, but fortunately they found their way home.  Please don't take home platters unless you can return them the next day.  We love to have nice big platters for serving goodies.  If you have one you don't need, or even if you find a nice one at a yard sale, we'd be happy to get an extra.
We asked our landlord for extra handicapped spaces, but they were unable to do that.   Instead, we have several guest spaces.  Those spaces are intended for those who need handicapped spaces.   Since they are not marked as handicapped spaces, we cannot enforce the handicapped parking laws.   However, please do not use the guest spaces unless you are entitled to use a handicapped space.
