GRADUATION PARTY JUNE 29 Join us for a Pot Luck graduation party on Sunday, June 29th. On this day we honor those who made Life Master during the past year. The new Life Masters get to play as our guests. We will celebrate with the traditional Pro-Am pairs game - each player is designated as either a pro or an amateur according to master point rankings. We draw partners for the game - each partnership has one Pro and one Am. Join us for a fun afternoon. MORE LESSONS IN JUNE A new series of lessons starts the second week in June. The lessons will be on commonly used conventions. The lessons start on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. and Friday mornings at 9 a.m. The lessons will follow the popular Audrey Grant series, including learning the correct way to play the conventions, and playing several hands that use the conventions. Please call Dora Gostanian at 299-1578, Mun Takeda at 284-3750, or Mike Molinari at 658-7318 for more information. Invite your friends to join you in learning how to use the most popular bridge conventions |
UNIT UPCOMING EVENTS CALENDAR with tournament links California and nearby tournaments Bay Area TournamentsUNIT NEWS WEAR YOUR NAME PROUDLY Quite a few players are now wearing handsome magnetic name tags with a hand of bridge attached. You can get yours at the bridge club by filling out an order blank with your payment. Let people know who you are! We are also selling convention card holders and convention card diaries. These are on display with the name tags and can be purchased by paying at the display. Profits from the sale of the name tags and other items are going toward cleaning the carpet. The bridge club rug has been cleaned and it looks great! Let's try to keep it that way by picking up papers, chips, crumbs, and any other items when you drop them. You may have noticed that we now have a bin for recyclables. Please help us by putting only papers and other recyclables in the waste baskets around the room, and food and other nonrecyclables in the basket in the kitchen. Soft drink cans and bottles still go in the basket near the back entrance to the bridge club. We're working on a plan to have bridge gift certificates available for the games at the Fresno Bridge Club. Thanks to those who have offered to contribute to the Building Fund. If you did not give us your reply, you may still submit a reply in the ballot box at the Fresno Bridge Club. |

CLUB NEWS NORTH AMERICAN PAIRS WORLD WIDE PAIRS JUNE 6 Friday night June 6th is the annual World Wide pairs game. Players throughout the world play the same hands at the same time. We submit our results to London, and they compare the results at every table in the world - the top on each board is so big that they have to use percentages to give you your result. The results of every section in the world can be seen on the Internet. It's quite interesting to see how your results in Fresno compare to the results everywhere. Players receive a booklet after the game with an analysis of each bridge hand by a top expert. Try it Friday night. The club level of the North American Pairs is held in June, July, and August. We voted overwhelmingly to join District 21 so that we could play in the district finals in San Mateo next January, so lets play in the qualifying games this summer so that we'll be eligible. Check your calendar to see when the games are held. Those who qualify in June, July, or August, may play in the unit final in the fall. Unit qualifiers may travel to San Mateo for the finals. The event pays part red points, sectionally rated at the club level, and gold points at the district level. Top winners for May in Oakhurst were Burke Zane, Don McCartin, Wally Cucura, Mary-Gene Krieghoff, Betty Ann Dunn, and Bobbie Schlagel. Top Fresno players for April was Anita Penny, followed by Maggie Mahaffey, Wanda Cardella, Skip Miller, and Ray April. by Wanda Cardella. Steve Sharp still leads for 2008, with three players less than a master point behind. George Dalition was the top 99er for March, followed by Estee Strombotne. Linda Coppersmith leads for 2008. |
