Graduation Pro-Am Party June 10
We're holding a pot luck  on Sunday June 10 at 12:15 pm for our annual Graduation Party to celebrate all new Life Masters since last year's party.  New LM's Rick Betcher, Paul Boyd, Opal Purves, Mun Takeda, and Suzanne Graham will be honored with a free play for the day, plus lots of congratulations.
This is also the day for our annual Pro-Am game.  No one needs to bring a partner, because we will choose partners for you.  We will draw names to pick one "Pro" to play with each "amateur."   Last year's winners were Bill Glass and Margie Kenyon.   Can they repeat?  Sign up at the clubhouse, or just come for the pot luck and game on Sunday June 10.

UNIT NEWS
The building that we lease has been sold.  This includes the three buildings at the corner of Fresno and Clinton.  We have not yet heard any information from the new owner concerning plans for the site.  Whether or not our new owner has different plans for the building, our building committee continues to look for other possibilities.
We are now part of District 21.   North American Pairs finals will now be in the bay area.  Our district is hosting the North American Bridge Championships in San Francisco November 22 to December 2 this year.   The NABC is usually a great tournament, with many, many events for all players.  They include daily pair games, daily knockout teams with many flights, and games for newcomers with speakers giving lessons.   We expect many of our players to attend, since this is the closest NABC to Fresno.   We have been asked to help with the volunteer work on Thursday, November 29 before a session.  If anyone plans to be there that day, please let us know.   Volunteers are welcome on other days, too.

Draft minutes of unit board meetings will be posted at the clubhouse and will be available on the unit website.

CLUB NEWS
John and Della Schnell lead the Sunday series, with Ray April, Jean Kesler, and Jim Sweet in third through fifth place.   There are two more games in the best four of six Sunday series games.   If you've played in two of the Sunday games, you are still eligible.  The next series game is June 24, with the final series game in July.
North American Pairs games are held in June, July, and August.   These are part red point games that pay up to three times the normal master points to the winners.   Those who qualify may play in the unit qualifying game, which is usually in November.  Unit qualifiers may play in the District 21 finals, which last time were held in Pleasanton in January.  The top three in each flight (Open, under 2000 MP, and nonLM (under 500 MP]) qualify to play in the national finals in Detroit in March, 2008.  Qualifying games are scheduled for Wednesday June 13, and Friday June 29 at 7 pm and Sunday June 17 at 1 pm.   There will be more qualifying games in July and August.
Attendance at Sunday games is very low during nearby regional tournaments, so we have canceled Sunday games during many regionals.  There is no Sunday afternoon game or Friday night game the first week of June due to the popular Sacramento regional

Top winner for April at the Fresno Bridge Club was Verlee O'Neill, followed by Steve Sharp.  Wanda Cardella still leads for 2007.   Roberta Beam was the top 99er for April.  George Efthemon is still the leader for 2007.

OF INTEREST
Few of us know that those little signs we used to see on the roadside were about bridge.  One of our new members has provided some of the signs, plus a few other poems.  We'll print them from time to time.
