PLAY IN THE WINTER SECTIONAL
FEBRUARY 8 -11

Our annual winter sectional will be held at the Fresno Bridge Club Thursday through Sunday, February 8 through 11.  We'll have pair games at 1 pm and 7 pm on Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. and 2:30 pm on Saturday, with two session Swiss teams on Sunday at 10 am.  We will also have a morning game at 9 o'clock Friday.  Nearly every session will have separate section for 299ers.  Hospitality chairman Dora Gostanian is busy asking members to bring refreshments for the hospitality table during the tournament.   If she hasn't asked you yet, it's still OK to bring a plate of tasty treats to the tournament.   Please ask one of your favorite partners to play with you during the tournament.   If your favorite partner is unavailable, partnership chairman Mun Takeda can help.....call her at 559-284-3750 or E-mail j.takeda@comcast.com.    Lots of silver points are waiting for those who compete at the sectional.  And  don't forget the free lunch on Sunday!

ANOTHER NEW LIFE MASTER!
MUN TAKEDA MAKES LM AT THE MONTEREY REGIONAL

Congratulations to Mun Takeda, who finished in the overalls in three Knockout team events at the Monterey regional, winning enough points to make LM.  Her teammates Allyson Farrell, Sandy OwYoung, Steve Sharp, and Laura DaCosta helped her to go over.  Congratulations, Mun!!

Richard Meffley was third in the knockout teams and fourth in the Swiss teams.   Bill Glass was third in the senior pairs.   Unlike the last several Reno tournaments, there was hardly any precipitation.  Driving to and from the tournament was not marred by snowfalls or avalanches this time.
At the Monterey regional, Allyson Farrell, Sandy OwYoung,  Mun Takeda, and  Stephen Sharp were second in bracket 3 compact knockout teams and third in bracket 5 KO teams.  Mun Takeda, Laura Da Costa,  Stephen Sharp, and Allyson Farrell were third in bracket 4 KO teams.
Farid Assemi and  Ed Wojewoda were sixth in the evening Swiss teams and eight in the Swiss teams.  Judy Rosenthal and  Paul Messner were fourth in bracket 4 KO teams and Th in flight C evening Swiss teams.   John and Tina Renna were second twice in the 299er pairs and third on flight B in the charity 299er pairs.   With Howard Reed and Pat Simpson, they were third in bracket six KO teams and fourth in flight C of the evening Swiss teams.  Bert Rettner was second in the BCD Swiss teams.  Dave Shuster and Bert Rettner were sixth in the evening Swiss teams.  Laura Da Costa was second in flight C of the charity pairs.
David Zealear, Diane Zealear,  Olivia Stockton, and Annie Chiljian were second in bracket 4 KO teams.  Della and John Schnell, with Jim Slinger and Susan Bertken won the evening  Swiss teams and were sixth in the open pairs.  Carol Miller and  Linda Coppersmith were fifth in the 299er Pairs.  Keith Lindersmith,  Donny Graham, and Ruth Christensen, were fourth in Flight B in the evening Swiss teams.  Jay Roll and Larry Cavanaugh were fourth in the senior Swiss teams.  Mike Molinari,  Burke Zane, Claire Molnar, and Karen McCartin were second in bracket 2 of the KO teams.   Mike Molinari and Burke Zane were third in flight C of the open pairs.  Congratulations to our many successful players.

CLUB NEWS
One of the big events of any year was the surprise 90th birthday party for Jane McCoy held on Saturday January 27th.   It's been years since the clubhouse was so full of bridge players.  Jane received the unit's distinguished service award twenty years ago, and has continued  helping the unit and new players ever since.  The surprise was nearly ruined, so organizers Mun Takeda and Verlee O'Neill threw a birthday party at the club the Friday before to divert attention from the big party.  All Jane's friends contributed to give her a gift of bridge at the club every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for a year.   Saturday director John Schnell donated bridge on Saturday, too.  Mun and Verlee and several others provided a great lunch and nice door prizes for almost everyone.  It was a great afternoon.   See pictures here.
Top December winners in Madera ere Everett Bondeson, followed by Gay and Larry Slates and Jim Honeywell.  Denny Green was the top player of 2006, followed by Everett Bondeson, Morgan Johnson, Bob Mortimer, and Larry and Gay Slates.
Top Oakhurst players for 2006 are Wally Cucura, Don McCartin, Paul Mertens, Claire Molnar, Karen McCartin, Burke Zane, Mary-Gene Kreighoff, Everett Bondeson, Jim Honeywell, and Al Crane.  January leaders are Bobbie Schlagel, Mary-Gene Krieghoff, Claire Molnar, Don McCartin, and Corey Cole.
Maggie and Mary Lou are celebrating Valentine's Day, February 14, with drawings for prizes.   Come and win!
We will have another Swiss team game on Sunday, February 25, with red points to the winners and qualification to the district Grand National Teams in San Diego for those players who finish average or above.
We haven't started the series game on Sunday yet - since all the games held in January and February have been championship games of one kind or another.

Barbara Thacker was the top
master point winner  at the Fresno Bridge Club in December.   Wanda Cardella was the top master  point winner for 2006 with 134.31 master points.  Steve Sharp,  Jay Roll, Anita Penny and Monique Irion  had over 100 master points.
The 99er leader for December was Al Crane,  followed by John and Peggy Oakshott.  The top 2006 99er master point winner was Roberta Beam.

Almost every club game in Fresno and Madera publishes the results on the internet.   Just click for the calendar and click for the game you want.
