UNIT CHRISTMAS PARTY AND ELECTION The ballot for the board of directors, for a two year, 2006 and 2007, will be mailed to all unit members. The candidates are Paul Boyd, Kay Chrisman, Mary Lou Da Costa, Maggie Mahaffey, Richard Meffley, and Howard Reed. Paul Boyd and Kay Chrisman have not served on the board before. The others are incumbents. Please vote for up to six of those nominated. Our thanks go to Sally Perring, our current unit secretary, and Mark Stern, our current tournament chairman, who have served for the last two years, and are not running for re-election. Ballots must be turned in by the unit annual meeting and Christmas party on Sunday, December 4, 2005. The unit board will provide lots of refreshments for the game, so come and enjoy. This Sunday party often has been the biggest club game of the year. We have also scheduled two sections - a stratified open section and a stratified 299er section, and if we need a third section, we'll add one, too. Come enjoy the party to start the Christmas season. |
UNIT UPCOMING EVENTS CALENDAR with tournament links California and nearby tournaments Bay Area TournamentsFALL SECTIONAL GERARD LAQUERRIERE WINS PRESIDENT'S AWARD PAT SIMPSON 99ER AWARD Warren Cederborg of Visalia was the top master point winner at the Fresno Fall Sectional. Congratulations also go to top Fresno unit winners, Gerard Laquerriere, winning the President's award, and Pat Simpson, winning the 99er award. Curt Reeves was second in the President's award race, less than a point behind Gerard. Again, the Hospitality Committee of Judy Nicholson, Mary Jo Howard-Davila, and Jim Stefanich thank all who brought refreshments to make the tournament a success. Sunday's attendance was down from the past tournament, so our overall attendance was a bit lower than last year (correcting last month's newsletter). Thanks go to all the committee members, who coordinated everything and prepared free lunches on Saturday and Sunday. We really loved those free lunches! |

CLUB NEWS December is the month of STACs and Christmas parties. Nearly all clubs will have Sectional tournaments at club games the week of December 5 through 11. As the name implies, they are sectionally rated with silver points to the winners. Big winners have a chance for lots of silver points, since the overall awards are often based on over 400 tables. Hands will be duplicated over many tables throughout the western United States. Please check with your director to make sure the hands are ordered and the game will be played. The Tuesday morning club will not have a STAC game, but nearly every other club will.
Wally Cucura and Paul Mertens had a 72.08 % game in Oakhurst last month. Don McCartin and Burke Zane had 71.25 % game. Congratulations! The top master point winner in Madera for October was Ruth Rowe, with Larry and Gay Slates right behind. The top winners for September were Larry and Gay Slates, with Denny Green and Morgan Johnson following. Bob Mortimer, Denny Green, and Larry and Gay Slates are all within a point of each other for leading master point winners of 2005. Denny Green's nephews Dave Pfister and Brooks Pfister from Roseville visited the Madera Bridge Club, and came in first in November. Come back again! George Sturges was the top master point winner at the Fresno Bridge Club in October. We haven't posted other master point leaders on line yet, but they are posted at the Fresno Bridge Club. |
