| PRO-AM GRADUATION PARTY JULY 17 It't time for our annual party to honor our newest Life Masters. Come early for the party. Since we last gathered to honor Life Masters, Kay Chrisman, Claire Molnar, and Lee McKoane have made the grade. We'll honor them and anyone else who goes over before the party. The party is a Pro-am. Half the players are declared "pros" and half are "amateurs." We'll have a drawing before the game to determine the partnerships. In order to play, you don't need to bring a partner, just come and we'll pick one for you. It's fun, and we promise there will be no unsolicited lessons from the pros. Just fun! |

Farid Assemi and Ed Wojewoda won the open pairs at the Oakland sectional Welcome to new members Ken Blunt, Evelyn Jadoon, and Marion Peterson. Our condolences are extended to Belva Quattrin, whose mother recently passed away. Our wishes for speedy recoveries go to Ted Johnson, who is now in the Armenian Home, and to Dave Haberstich, who was recently hospitalized. If you notice a new Meffley winning in Madera, my mother has been helping out these past several months and playing, too. Thanks, Mom. 299er SECTIONAL AUGUST 13-14 If you have under 300 master points, make plans for the 299er sectional next month. We'll have three sessions of pair games and a Swiss team game Sunday afternoon. Game times are 10 am and 3 pm, with lunch and learn at 2:15 each day. We will also have 49er sections Sunday morning and Saturday afternoon and a newcomer section just right for current EasyBridgers Saturday morning |
CLUB
NEWS July has five Saturdays and once again there will be an individual party on July 30. Strange things happen in an individual. Last time, Margie Kenyon found herself declaring no trump contracts four times! Mary Lou Da Costa is celebrating Independence Day by watching fireworks at Dodger Stadium Sunday night July 3rd and hosting a pot luck party on July 4th. If you need a partner for Monday's game, please call her several days ahead of time since she won't be able to arrange partners the day before the game. The master point leaders for May are Monique Irion, Bert Rettner, and Wanda Cardella. George Sturges still leads for 2005, with Monique and Wanda right behind. The 99er leader for May is Michael Molinari, followed by Sandy Richardson, Allyson Farrell and Roberta Beam. Paul Boyd went over 100 points this year, but he is the 99er leader for 2005 of those who started the year under 100 points. Mike Molinari is right behind.. Click the links to get more complete lists. Top master point winners for May in Madera were Everett Bondeson and Bob Mortimer, followed by Larry and Gay Slates. Bob Mortimer leads for the year, followed by Everett Bondeson. Intermediate players with over 100 points get a chance to play with a Life master the first Wednesday evening of the month. Call Kay Chrisman for details SUMMER FUN AT THE SECTIONAL Those who played in our recent sectional had a great time. Players thought George Winter from southern California did an excellent job directing the tournament. Hospitality chairmen Judy Nicholson and Dora Gostanian provided superb hospitality for the tournament. We especially enjoyed the sandwiches they made and the short break for the Sunday Swiss teams lunch. Somehow they were able to serve lunch without charging the players any extra amount. Most tournaments charge anywhere from $3 to $8 for Sunday lunch. They wish to thank all the unit members who brought goodies for the tournament. There were so many members who did. For some sessions it seemed that everyone walking in the door brought something. They ask that members who bring things sign up on the hospitality sheet so that they can better plan the hospitality. Since many more people brought food than signed up, the hospitality budget ended up buying snacks that will be used at the next party, too. |
| MENTORING
PROGRAM You can still join the mentoring program. Ask a more experienced player to be your mentor, or call on of the unit directors - Maggie Mahaffey, Barbara Thacker, or Kay Chrisman and we may be able to help. Those who wish to mentor should let the the unit directors know that you are available. Players who participate in the mentoring program on Wednesday night or Sunday afternoon each receive a $1 discount. |
