WIN THE QUILT!

Dee Beebe has donated a beautiful quilt for the Building Fund, which has been on display at the Clubhouse for several weeks.   If you would like to win it, you can purchase tickets for $1 each.   The directors at the Fresno Bridge Club will be happy to sell you as many tickets as you like.  The winning ticket will be chosen at the winter sectional.

CLUB NEWS

Maggie has brought back the Guess Your Score game for the Tuesday afternoon 299ers.     Whoever guesses closest to their actual score on March 29 wins a free play.  Winner must be present to win (but doesn't need to have a good score).
March has five Wednesdays, which means a Spring  Luncheon at noon on the fifth Wednesday, March 30.    After lunch, there will be a Club Championship.
The masterpoint leaders  for January are Della Schnell, Vivian Betcher, and Byron Steinert, all with over nine points.  The 99er leader  for January is Paul Boyd, followed by Steve Sharp.   Click the links to get more complete lists.

The Ace of Clubs Award goes to the players in the Fresno Unit in each masterpoint category who win the most points in club games.    The Mini-McKenney Award goes to the player in each category who wins the  most points in each category for the year, including club games and tournaments.   Congratulations to the winners!

MENTORING PROGRAM
The mentor program is back, with much less structure than before.    Several players signed up at the Clubhouse that they were willing to  be  mentors.    Many players are qualified to be a mentor - not just Life Masters.    Many nonLife Masters can share their experience with newcomers.   If you are   willing to be a mentor, call  one of  the unit directors - Maggie Mahaffey, Barbara Thacker, or Kay Chrisman.    If you want a mentor, ask a more experienced player to be your mentor.   If you are can't ask another member, call  one of the unit directors and they will try to find a volunteer.   We don't have many volunteers yet, so it may take a while.
Lessons are good for the mentee - but they are best done if a note is made and a short time is taken after the game is over.   The other players usually don't have time to wait for a lesson during the session.  Mentors should try to point out one or two areas for improvement per session - any more is too much to learn at once.
The unit will give a $1 discount  each to those who do mentoring during a unit game on Wednesday night or Sunday afternoon..

PLACES AND FACES
Jim Tritt and Richard Meffley won the Flight A District 22 North American Pairs in Anaheim.
Gerard Laquerriere and Mark Stern were second in Flight B and Bert Rettner and Bill Glass were third in Flight B.   All qualify to play in the finals in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this month.

Welcome to new member George Efthemon and returning member Steve Sharp.
At the Anaheim Regional, Bert Rettner and Bill Glass won the side game and were fifth in B in the open pairs.   Howard Reed and Pat Simpson were sixth in the 299er pairs.   Mun Takeda was first, second, and sixth in the 299er pairs, plus sixth in B in the 299er pairs.

Anthony Toto visited old bridge pals Kapil Sabharwal and Don Baze at the San Mateo regional and picked up a partner.  The four played in the compact knockouts.  After losing the first round, they won the consolation bracket.  Pictures were taken and glasses were handed out.  For not having played in over 6 years Don and Kapil did just fine.   There will be more news of the regional next month.

Get well wishes go to Oakhurst director Helen Henderson who is recuperating at the Armenian Home.   We hope you'll be home soon.

We are sorry to report that Mary Allen passed away in January.   She was a long time regular afternoon player, but she hadn't been able to play in the last few years.  The notice in the Bee stated that,  like most of us, she loved to play Bridge.

The Oakhurst Bridge Club misses Maida Maynard, who passed away recently.   She moved to the mountain area a few years ago from Southern California, where she had run bridge clubs.

Our condolences go to Sue Artis and the family of Craig Artis, who passed away this week.   Craig was one of a group of bridge playing friends who years ago gathered after bridge games for more bridge and more games.   We miss him.
